Day-long Training Session for Batch 1, 2 and 3 at COEL
Executive Development Center (EDC), East West University (EWU) arranged a day-long training session for the students enrolled in the course, LF 804: Pattern Making and Product Designing at Centre of Excellence for Leather Skill Bangladesh Limited (COEL), Kaliakoir, Gazipur on March 25, 2022 (Friday) for the students of Batch 1, Batch 2 and Batch 3 of the Graduate Diploma in Leather and Footwear Management (GDLFM) program under Tranche 3.
The purpose of this training session is to demonstrate the practical aspects of the Industry-specific courses of the Graduate Diploma in Leather and Footwear Management (GDLFM) program and to promote industry-academia collaboration and first-hand industry experience.
There are 53 trainees from Batch 1, 2 and 3 were participated in this session. The trainees were accompanied by course instructors and Dr. Mohammad Rezwanul Huq, Assistant Director of EDC-SEIP. The trainees thought that this session would help them a lot in their professional life.

Executive Development Center, SEIP, EWU Arranged Practical Sessions in the Footwear Testing Lab at INTERTEK BANGLADESH
Executive Development Center (EDC), East West University (EWU) arranged a practical session for the students enrolled in the course, LF809: Testing of Footwear Materials at Intertek Bangladesh, Tejgaon I/A, Dhaka, Bangladesh on Friday, March 11, 2022 for batch 1 and Friday, March 18, 2022 for batch 2 & batch 3 under Tranche 3.
EDC arranged the practical session with the collaboration of Intertek Bangladesh.
The purpose of this practical sessions is for gathering knowledge and it would help to increase the interest of the students in testing of footwear materials as well as the practical aspects of quality control.
Admission to Graduate Diploma in Leather and Footwear Management for Tranche-3
East West University is offering a Graduate Diploma in Leather and Footwear Management sponsored by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh for the fresh graduates and the existing executives working in the leather and footwear sector with a view to addressing the efficiency and skill gaps prevailing in the leather and footwear sector in Bangladesh.
Course Features:
- No course fee is required
- Per diems will be provided
- Duration of the program is 9 months
- Classes will be held on Friday, Saturday (evening) and Tuesday (evening) each week
- Internship allowance will be provided to each trainee for 3 months
Eligibility Criteria:
- An applicant must have at least a Bachelor Degree in any discipline from a UGC approved university or an institution
- He or she must also obtain minimum 5 points in combination based on previous examination results. The calculation of the points is as follows:

EDC-SEIP, EWU arranged 2nd Lecture Series under Tranche – 3
Executive Development Center (EDC) of East West University (EWU) arranged the second Lecture Series (LF22-1) for the Graduate Diploma in Leather and Footwear Management. The program was held online on 18 February 2022 through Zoom. The primary purpose of this series program is to increase the industry-academia collaboration, exchange knowledge, share first-hand experiences, and ensure updated, cutting-edge course content for the trainees who are actively participating in the GDLFM program.
The 2nd Lecture Series (LF22-1) Keynote speaker was Mr. Engr SAM Yousuf PEng, Chief Executive Officer, Z Shoes and Accessories Limited. He delivered a valuable lecture on “Practical Solutions to Quality-Related Problems in the organization.” Many students, faculty, and industry experts attended the program. The participating students had a lively discussion session with the speakers. They shared their recent industry experiences and highlighted several ways to maintain standard quality management.
EDC-SEIP, EWU Participated in the Webinar organized by Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized an internal webinar to enhance the industry-academia collaboration to accelerate the organizational productivity, pragmatism of course curriculum, and the efficacy of overall training outcome.
The webinar was held on February 9, 2022, titled “Establishing University-Industry Linkages for Managerial Workforce Development: Sharing Experiences from Bangladesh Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP).” The seasoned industry experts, practitioners, and ADB officials were present. Professor Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, Executive Development Center (EDC), East West University (EWU), presented the overall progress and achievements of the SEIP program and shared the experiences and knowledge with distinguished resource persons. He also provided deep insights into the 9-month Graduate Diploma in Leather and Footwear Management (GDLFM) program and identified various challenges to implement the target of the Graduate Diploma program. He also mentioned possible paths to mitigate the obstacle for implementing industry-oriented and practical skill and training programs in the Leather and Footwear sector in developing countries, like Bangladesh.
